A busy weekend for our competitive swimmers

The weekend of Jan 14-16 was a busy time for our competitive swimmers. They attended the 12 and under meet in London, the Joanne Malar Invitational in Hamilton or the Ontario Cup in Toronto. The summaries for these meets are provided below.

London 12 and Under Meet
Congratulations to the Guelph Marlins for ranking second overall in the January 15/16 meet in London. Great swimming everyone! Congratulations to Sophia Papadedes who qualified for provincials in the 100m fly! The following swimmers were ranked top 3 in their events:

Joanne Malar Invitational
A large group of Guelph Marlins proved that they swim fast whether in a brand new pool or the old McMaster Univeristy pool that hosted the Joanne Malar meet last weekend. Building at McMaster for a new ten lane pool to support the aquatics requirements for the 2015 Pan Am Games will soon be underway. The Marlins look forward to having top international level facilities nearby.
There were numerous personal best times posted at the meet with the following four swimmers earning best times in all of their events: Matthew Allen, Emma Barrett, Corey McKillop, and Matthew Steele. The following swimmers also qualified for additional provincial events at the meet: Micaley Cromwell (200m free), Jacob Kukovica (800m free), and Hayden Moffat (800m free).

Ontario Cup
Twelve of the Guelph Marlins competed at the Ontario Cup held at the University of Toronto pool last weekend. Ontario Cup has stringent qualifying time standards and the swimmers compete in an open age category.
Grant Harding was the top Marlin performer with five top eight finishes: third (100m back), fifth (50m free), sixth (50m back, 100m free), seventh (200m back). Other Marlin swimmers finishing in the top eight included, Andrew Ford first (200m IM) and Erin Stamp, fourth (50m breast, 100m breast). Congratulations also to Jacob Kukovica who qualified for his first Eastern Canada time standard in the 1500m free.
Other Marlin swimmers at the meet included: Amber Baird, Derek Bush, Melody Bush, Riley Konrad, Alex Labaj, Stephanie Papadedes, Katherine Stamp, and Samantha Stratford.
