Marlin Teens Shine at Brantford Meet
News date: 11/18/2009The Guelph Marlins competed at the annual Swim International meet in Brantford last weekend. The meet drew numerous high caliber swimmers from across the provinces of Ontario and Quebec.
Four of the Marlin thirteen year old girls shone at the meet: Haylie Burton, Riley Konrad, Katherine Stamp, and Samantha Stratford. In several events there were two or three of these young women racing together in a final. This group earned ten of the twenty-three individual Marlin medals, numerous top eight placing and personal best times. Samantha Stratford led the way finishing top eight in seven events, including three gold medals. Stratford also qualified for her first Eastern Cup time standard in the 200m IM and broke a meet record in the event. Riley Konrad finished top eight in six events, including two gold medals in the breaststroke. Stratford and Konrad both won two events with best times and large margins over the field. Burton and Stamp each earned four top eight spots with Stamp winning one gold medal, and setting a new club record in the 50m back leg of the relay.
Other notable Marlin highlights included: Austin Mulder qualifying for his first Eastern Cup time standard and swimming a huge personal best in the 200m back, Allyson Parson bettering the pool record in the 100m IM, and David Webb earning six top eight placings.
