Chantique OUA and Gryphon Athlete of the Week

Chantique Payne, now a marlin, was voted OUA athlete of the week and Gryphon athlete of the week. Chantique started swimming with the Brantford Aquatic Club when she was 6 and now swims for the Guelph Marlin Aquatic Club and the University of Guelph varsity team. Chantique has been coaching in the Marlins Swim School Program for the past three years.

Chantique, now in her third year at the University of Guelph, was outstanding this past weekend for the Gryphon women's swimming team. She won gold in all six of her individual events at the OUA Invitational, held at Guelph. She also contributed in a major way to each of her relay teams she competed on, for a total of 10 winning swims. She had impressive wins the 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke and 50m butterfly as well as on the winning relays teams of the 4 X 25m medley relay, 4 X 50m freestyle relay and the 4 X 100m medley relays. Chantique swam the CIS qualifying time in the 50m fly.
